The Bell Tolls at Traeger Hall

The Bell Tolls at Traeger Hall, by Jaime Jo Wright

The Bell Tolls at Traeger Hall is the second Jaime Jo Wright book I’ve been brave enough to read. She is extraordinary. Words and stories are weapons that dance to her command. They can engage, entice, unsettle and, eventually, encourage.

Considering this is a completely suspense filled book, it’s astonishingly not creepy. In the book we meet Waverly, an orphaned young woman who has been put through school by her aunt, and then, when she marries, her uncle starts dictating the support. Waverly goes to live with the couple in the imposing Traeger Hall that sits above the town her uncle built. When the pair are murdered, his will demands Waverly sit in vigil for a week and then be turned out with nothing. Beyond that, the hall must be sealed until all relatives have passed.

In a second timeline, Jennie’s parents are both dead and she has inherited all Traeger’s property empire. There are rumors of hidden treasure and pieces of art, but the first thing Jennie finds is a body. What other secrets will this old building reveal, or will more lives be lost to the mysteries left festering for so long?

What can I say. If you enjoy brilliantly written, clever suspense stories, riddled with mystery on every page, then this is a no-brainer read. I’m not a massive suspense fan, but this intrigued me and Jaime Jo Wright is in a league of her own. Highly recommended.
