Hello there. My name is Debb Hackett and I am very glad you stopped by.

I was born and raised in rural North Yorkshire, England. Always the dreamer, I would escape to other countries, continents, and worlds by reading or watching tv. By the time I reached 18 I had danced with students in New York (Fame), been an orphan in Victorian England (anything by Dickens), visited Narnia (C.S. Lewis) and married a handsome prince (Cinderella).

Then I moved to Wisconsin! I graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire with a degree in Philosophy and a minor in Broadcast Telecommunications and began a long and happy career as a radio news journalist and presenter. I’ve worked on both sides of the pond in Christian and secular radio, commercially, and for the BBC.

I was introduced to Jesus by Billy Graham when I was 13 years old and have been walking with Him ever since. I’ve had the joy of playing guitar in a youth band, being a Young Life leader, helping plant a church, teach ladies Bible study, play bass on two different worship teams, lead a bible study for Army officer cadets, and now I get to write books about Jesus.

In 1998 I met the love of my life on a chilly airfield and I’ve been following him to airfields ever since. My husband (Biggles, as I call him) is a military test pilot and his work quickly returned me to the USA. Our first child was born in Fort Worth, Texas. Despite British DNA, she is evidence for the nurture vs nature argument as she is firmly Texan in attitude. Our second little girl arrived almost two years later, back in England.

In 2013 we were sent to Washington DC and loved it there. Except for the Beltway traffic. During lockdown, we moved back to England and reside in leafy Surrey. 

My heart is to write compelling fiction that points readers to God without preaching. As my books grow, there will be snippets and, prayerfully, the opportunity to buy them on the site. But that’s a little way off.

Outside of being a wife, Mom/Mum (I get both), and writer, I love to play guitar, am an avid baker, and poor but tenacious skier. Oh and I love coffee but can only drink decaf, something that many writer friends find horrific. My writing mentor Dani shudders at the thought and I am always in her good graces if I actually grab the caffeinated kind (because sometimes desperation strikes).
