To Love a Beast

To Love a Beast, by Karen Witemeyer

To Love a Beast is the fourth in the brilliant Texas Ever After series and firmly in the running for my favorite. The story centers on Everett Griffin. The former playboy is shunned by his former friends after being disfigured. With no interest in making new ones, Griffin retreats to a country estate. His best friends are now all shelved in his library.

Callista Rosenfeld works along side her father in the family bookbinding company. But with him injured, she must travel and take on a major project at a private estate. Griff is horrified at the presence of a beautiful woman in his home and tries, unsuccessfully to throw her out. Instead, Callista finds allies in the household staff and soon starts to wear down her employer’s defenses.

I loved the tight plotting, and the way the author reinvented the characters from the Beast’s castle, keeping enough of their personalities to make them recognizable, but not so much it felt like reading a copy of the movie, if that makes sense. The faith arc was, as always with this author, inspiring without being preachy. The gentle way the romance grew, and the added tension of an external threat build into a wonderful read. Highly recommended.

I received a copy of To Love a Beast from the author via NetGalley. The views are all my own.
