“And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon and his angels. But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven.” Revelation 12:7-9
Remember when you were a kid and would watch the old Charlie Brown TV specials? You could always understand the children, but whenever adults spoke you heard a rather annoying “wah wah wah“ muffled-trombone noise.
Lately, I’ve realized that’s exactly what the enemy sounds like to me.
Constant whispering.
Mocking.
Shame.
The reminders of failure, fear and grief.
This past year brought quite a few painful losses of dear friends, so not surprisingly, I went into a deep dive exploring exactly what the Bible really says about heaven. What I found amazed me. More than 600 verses in Scripture speak about heaven, and in 54 of the Bible’s 66 books, God gives us a glimpse of what eternity with Him will look like. Again and again, the Holy Spirit reveals to us what heaven will be like. It is incredibly comforting how God prepares us for what is to come in the new heaven and earth.
But surprisingly, one of the greatest comforts is not just what will be there- it’s what won’t.
The Joy of No More
Habakuk 1:13 tells us that God is too pure and too holy to tolerate evil in His presence. That means that Satan has no place there.
In Revelation, John paints a beautiful picture of this dwelling place of God: gates of pearl, streets of gold, rivers of life, and dazzling beauty beyond imagination. But tucked into that description is a powerful promise:
“And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon and his angels. But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven.” (Revelation 12:7-9)
They lost their place in heaven.
How incredible is that?
One day, every condemning whisper will finally be silenced. The enemy’s exhausting “wah wah wah” soundtrack will be gone forever. No more accusations. No more enemy crowing his continual cadence of condemnation.
Just peace.
Joy.
And Jesus.
No PLACE for the enemy.
And honestly? I can’t wait.
