Whiteout represents a double dose of things I love best. In this instance, books by Dani Pettrey and Lynette Eason. These ladies are two of my absolute favorites, so I knew this was going to be great.
I don’t want to play favorites so am going to talk about these stories as a collection, not individual novellas. Dani Pettrey is known, in part for her ability to write action scenes. So when she’s involved in a collection set in a ski resort, you know to grab your helmet, buckle up your boots and brace yourself. She didn’t disappoint. Dropped out of a helicopter and then snowboarding until an avalanche hit. Yes. Mayhem. And just when the characters are dug out, the stalker starts making their sinister presence felt. I loved the ensemble cast and being kept guessing. Bravo.
Meanwhile, Eason, who excels at writing miitary characters, has her former Army trauma surgeon helping with the aftermath of the avalanche, while juggling PTSD and an uncomfortable reunion. Her story is a masterclass in tension. Along with the suspense, this stry kept me guessing between two possible baddies, (plus the option it could be someone we don’t see on the page until the big reveal). As the stakes keep going up, so does the danger, until the crunch ending when I could finally breathe again.
I received a copy of Whiteout from the authors. The views are my own. Highly recommended if you love romantic suspense. This is a no-brainer.
