Unfailing Love by Janette Oke & Laurel Logan Oke

Unfailing Love is a lovely safe place to escape for a good few hours. Whether you’ve watched the tv series When Hope Calls, or not, this story is great for lovers of historical romance or historical fiction.

The book is the third in a series about the Lilian Walsh and Grace Bennett, sisters who were separated as orphans when Lilian was adopted and Grace, left behind. Now reunited as adults, the women have teamed up to run an orphanage of their own. In this story, they’re blighted by three children running away. Newly adopted Lemuel, newly arrived Veronica and Freddy, who wants to get to the coast and become a sailor.

While Lemuel struggles to keep a determined Veronica safe from reactionary Freddy, the search is on to find them. Meanwhile, back at Brookfield, the temporary orphanage, Grace and Lilian try to keep Veronica’s brother Cass, feeling safe and loved.

Lilian has problems of her own and learns the best way to tackle them is with open and honest communication. Ben, meanwhile is wrestling with joy at finding the family he left years ago, but sadness at his broken relationship with his dad. On top of this, he struggles with Freddy’s disappearance as Ben hoped to adopt the youth.

As the stories interweave, the patient working out of faith in every day struggles and joys comes to the fore, making this a lovely summer escape. My only less than glowing comment is the narrator. She does a fantastic job except for accents. They weren’t good at all. But other than that, she is flawless.

I definitely recommend this book.
