The Way of the Brave by Susan May Warren

The Way of the Brave was my first book for 2020 and had a back cover that made me metaphorically salivate. Denali National Park has been quite high up on my travel bucket list for several years and this was a warmer, less expensive way to experience it.

TWOTB introduces us to some new characters as we plunge into the world of Global Search and Rescue. Orion Starr is emotionally hiding after a mission gone wrong, but with a soul that longs to rescue others, he can’t run forever.

Meanwhile, former CIA profiler Jenny Calhoun is still haunted after approving an operation agains the Taliban that lead to several deaths. When Jenny take two friends on her annual extreme challenge to climb in Alaska, the man she almost killed has to fight to save her life.

I’ve long enjoyed Susan May Warren’s writing and after all, she is one of the leading series authors in Christian fiction. I still have a sore hand from taking notes in one of her classes on the topic. This one is starting out compelling from the first line and doesn’t stop until the end. There’s all the adventure of a climbing trip gone wrong, the emotional turmoil of the past coming back to force a reunion on two wounded souls, and a tender, vulnerable love story. All that is wrapped up in meticulous research about Denali National Park, mountaineering and ice climbing.

This just might be Susan May Warren at her finest.

The Way of the Brave is one of my most anticipated reads of 2020. See the rest of the list here…
