The Christmas Quilt is a lovely story that stands alone, although it’s part of a much bigger collection. If you aren’t a fan of Amish stories, then this probably isn’t for you, although to be honest I don’t read a lot of Amish fiction, but thoroughly enjoyed this.
The main story focuses on Leah and Adam, who are expecting twins. As Leah’s pregnancy progresses and she grows uncomfortable, she senses Adam pulling away but can’t understand why.
Samuel and Adam’s sister Annie are also expecting, a few months behind Leah. The pair serve their community as medics and are excited to bring new lives into the world. Then Leah’s babies are put at risk and everything changes.
Leah is hospitalized and Annie keeps her company, and as the two work on a quilt for the babies, they share stories around the fruits of the spirit. What I enjoy about Amish stories is the focus on a simpler, family and community oriented life. A life that puts all my busyness into perspective and reminds me what’s really important.
I thoroughly enjoyed the story and am now ready to embrace the advent season ahead.
