I read The Christiansen Family series over the course of a year and thorough enjoyed every story. Here’s brief review of each one. I highly recommend these books. Susan May Warren is a master storyteller.
Take a Chance on Me
First up is the oldest of the Christiansen siblings. Derek is the heir to the stunning Evergreen Lake resort but is bitter and broken after the death of his wife Felicity. Attorney Ivy Madison has no idea who Derek is when she wins him at an auction. Gripping story about the cost of second chances, the forgiveness they take and the blessings they bring.
It Had to be You
Eden is the oldest of the girls. She dreams of being columnist while writing obituaries. The rest of her time, she’s a babysitter for her wild NHL star brother, Owen. Jace Jacobsen is the bad boy enforcer on Owen’s team. He’s thrown together with Eden to work on a story that could change both their lives, if they’re brave enough to let it.
When I Fall in Love
Timid Grace Christiansen lands in turmoil when her family sends her to Hawaii for a cooking contest. She teams up with Max Sharpe. He’s a hockey player more at home in the kitchen than on the ice. And Max is hiding a big secret. This story is all about overcoming fears and is beautiful to read.
Always on my Mind
Honestly, not being unkind, but professional treasure hunter Casper is a mess from the minute we meet him. He comes back from a professional failure and must face his feelings for Raina. On her doorstep he’s shocked to discover she’s pregnant, with his brother Owen’s baby. Feeling like the family loser, Casper forgets his dreams and helps rebuild the resort after a major fire. Definitely a story about never losing hope.
The Wonder of You
Amelia, the youngest of the girls is the footloose photographer with the world as her oyster, studying aboard. Roark St John is the man who broke her heart in a whirlwind. He arrives in Deep Haven desperate to win her back. But will his true identity end them forever? I particularly enjoyed this story. All about letting go of fear and reaching for your fairytale.
You’re the One that I Want
And finally, the book I always knew would be a doozy. Owen, the black sheep returns home. Career gone, health in tatters and family relationships at an all time low. He’s accompanied by Scottie, a woman he could love, but daren’t. Brilliant story about the power of deep, abiding love.
Have Yourself a Christiansen Christmas
And drawing everything together is this wonderful conclusion. Be warned, though, this is one of the hardest-to-put-down books I’ve encountered. The whole family gathers and everyone’s falling apart. But between faith and family, you know the stories will be wonderful. Highly recommended.
