You may have arrived here before the start which could mean all of the sites aren’t ready quite yet. Once the official start has begun, you can work your way through the sites, gathering clues, until you arrive at the final stop which will be on Toni Shiloh’s site, stop #10.

Let’s Delight in Diversity

Doesn’t Freedom Lake sound like somewhere you’d like to at least visit, but probably live? My good friend Toni Shiloh has written a three-book contemporary Christian romance series set in the fictional town. It’s classed as ‘Diversity Fiction” because the main characters are Black. There are six of them and as it’s romance, it’s not hard to understand those characters all pair off. One discovers she’s biracial and meets a family she never imagined.

The thing I’ve most enjoyed about these books is the creativity that Shiloh pours into her work. A busy wife and mom, she managed to build whole worlds when not tending to her family. Freedom Lake is a place to find Jesus and the healing only He can bring. The part I have most enjoyed is the central theme that runs through all three books. That of six friends gathering together over a meal to study scripture. Not all are believers, some have fallen away from childhood faith but each person is facing down a giant and through the series we see the Lord giving them their slingshot and stones.

The characters leap of the pages (it’s been really fun watching Toni design the covers because I have had a sense of what each person looks like and for the most part, my imagination aligned with her vision). As much as the personalities shine, so their issues resonate. She shows us that however different we may or may not look, the importance of finding our identity is undeniably vital. The heart matters far more.

Finally Accepted is the last in the series and deals with Chloe and Darryl. When we first meet them in book one (Returning Home), Chloe is on fire for God while Darryl is happy running the other direction. Except he’s head over heels for Chloe, who won’t touch a man who isn’t first walking with Jesus. Then their family histories invade a fledgling relationship and a new found faith. And then, boom, the pages turn fast. I really hope you’ll check the series out and enter the contest.
