Fatal Strike by DiAnn Mills

Oh boy, where to start? Fatal Strike has one of the most unusual murder plots I’ve ever read. This isn’t a spoiler – the killer is using rattlesnake venom and injecting it into the victim’s heart. (Shudder). DiAnn Mills had my mind spinning over what might happen, before I’d reached the end of chapter one. I was fairly certain there’d be at least one scene involving snakes that would make me want to run and hide and… nope not telling if I was right.

But again, I didn’t guess the bad guy till the final few chapters, which in this case was a sign of a well-crafted story. I liked the characters and the secondary ones were written strongly enough to stand out. The description made me to want to visit Galveston – I lived in Texas but never made it quite that far south.

I found it really interesting to watch both the male and female leads have to face their greatest fears, (and you just know for one of them that has to be snakes, right?) and how they handled the aftermath. If you combine all this with a family in tatters, a desperate mom and a fledgling relationship, you have an unforgettable read. DiAnn Mills always says to “expect and adventure” and this certainly qualifies.
