Alaskan Avalanche Escape certainly keeps the pages turning. This latest offering from Darlene L. Turner tells the story of mountain survival expert Jayla Hoyt and her search and rescue dog, the wonderful Hercules.

When Jayla discovered someone deliberately set off explosives to trigger an avalanche, she must partner with Alaskan park ranger Bryson Clarke, to try and get to the bottom of what’s going on. Their investigation gets tricky when the pair and Hercules become targets themselves.

As ever with a Darlene Turner book, you barely get chance to breathe between plot twists and turns. I really liked that the villain was hidden in plain sight and not at all who I predicted it to be. Bravo there. I read a lot of romantic suspense and watch plenty of detective shows – I pride myself in spotting the bad guy ages before the end.

Finally, I often read to experience new places or careers and the mountains between the Yukon and Alaska delivered that beautifully. Fascinating to learn about mountain survival and the role of rescue dogs in the snow. Definitely recommended.
