Active Defense by Lynette Eason is the main reason my Christmas tree is still up in January. This is the second time an Eason book has delayed festive decor removal. My husband now throws me ‘the face’ when he sees her name on my wish list. The face communicates “got it. I’ll be taking up the household slack until the killer is caught.”
And this time isn’t any different. Once again, Eason is at the very top of her game. From the opening scene of this book I was gripped. The characters reel you in and then worry you with their personal safety. In this book we meet former military surgeon Heather Fontaine who shot to fame after a clip of her fighting to save an apparent suicide bomber attracts some unsavory attention.
Thankfully, security firm owner Travis Walker is keeping an eye on Heather and as the two work together from the seclusion of his family ranch, Heather’s ingrained refusal to allow anyone to get too close falters.
Can Travis win her heart before the killer stops it? This book is another complete winner from this author and despite being book three in a series works well as a standalone novel too. Highly recommended.
