Collateral Damage is a highly exciting, action-packed start to the Danger Never Sleeps series.
Last year, my Christmas decorations stayed up well beyond Twelfth Night. Indecently far beyond. I blame Lynette Eason’s last series for that. So when the first book in a brand new series arrived, my husband understood nothing get done until I finished the story. He and left me in peace to get on with it.
Collateral Damage is a compelling story of two former soldiers whose lives are forever linked during a violent tour of duty. Psychiatrist Brooke Adams is now in private practice after surviving a cafe bombing in Kabul. Special Ops sergeant Asher James is retired but his sleep is haunted. He decides to see if Brooke can help him but arrives at her office to find a body.
At that point, everything goes crazy with one attempt on Brooke’s life after another. This is one of those books that you pick up with a certain expectation, but then start reading to discover you were completely wrong and the author wrote such a tremendously better story than you had even hoped.
With strong characters, intriguing happenings and a genuine story of love amidst PTSD symptoms, Collateral Damage does not disappoint. What I really liked is that the story focused mostly on Brooke and Asher staying live, with other events woven in featuring an orphanage in Kabul and disappearing children. The characters are cleverly added. I hope they get their own stories, and soon.
Now it’s mid January, I think I should go take down my tree!
