My good friend Toni Shiloh and three other writers just released the perfect idea for a summery read. The premise sees a group of wedding specialists form a partnership, each bringing their own area of expertise. There’s a seamstress, a baker, a caterer and a planner. Not long after the novella collection was released, I asked Toni a few questions…
Where did the idea for the novella collection come from?
So, I was asked by Leeann Betts to join the collection. She had the idea of a group of women who ran a wedding planning business. I loved the concept and then promptly brainstormed some ideas. Thus an idea was born. ๐
What made you pick a baker? Do you like to bake? Have you ever eaten a blue velvet cake? (There’s a blue velvet cake in the book)
I picked the baker because . . . cake! I love desserts and I figured I would have the most fun researching what she did for a living. I wasn’t wrong! I do like to bake but I’ve never done wedding cakes (not that talented). I’ve never eaten blue velvet cake but red velvet is so yummy and fun to make.
How does it work when you write for a collection? How much do you have to share of your stories so that the details all line up?
I think every collection is different. It all depends on how much interaction the authors choose to have between their characters. There are parts you have to share if there are cameos and what not, but those run pretty smoothly in my opinion.
Who took the wedding photos and did the flowers? This was my burning question while reading the set!
Lol, very good question. We didn’t have a photographer in the group but I’d imagined Leeann’s character(the planner) would have overseen that detail.๐
You have participated in several collections. Whatโs appealing about them?
I like working with other authors, being able to connect with their readers, and hopefully gain some new readers for myself.
And finally, whatโs coming up next? Another novella collection or something else?
Another novella collection. ๐ I have a Christmas one I’ll be in later in the year. Thank you so much for having me!
