In Her Sights

In Her Sights, by Karen Witemeyer

Oh my, where to start gushing about In Her Sights. When I hear the author names in the same sentence as Annie Oakley and pink pistol, I was all in. And goodness, this is a fun story.

Tessa James has her sights set on a resultant bachelor, local gunsmith Jackson Spivey. Jackson has sworn off women because he’s the town outcast, through no fault of his own. But Tessa sees beyond the gossip and decides to take action.

Knowing Jackson’s love of guns, Tessa takes a class with the legendary Annie Oakley and comes away with a pistol designed for matchmaking. I enjoyed the plot, the humor around needing an actual gun for husband hunting, and the interjection of Annie Oakley.

The real strength came from the interaction between Jackson and Tessa. Jackson is horribly wounded by his father’s reputation and so has shut himself off from the townsfolk. That’s in sharp contrast to well-liked Tessa, who is determined to pull Jackson out of his shell, risking her own reputation in the process.

If you enjoy historical romances with unexpected twists and a charming end, then I highly recommend In Her Sights.
