Across the Shores is a lovely collection of stories, with each heroine in possession of a simple gold cross, handed down through the generations.

We begin with More than Gold, by Carolyn Miller: In the wilds of an Australian goldrush where disaster strikes forcing a young woman to face unimaginable hardship. What I liked here is that Josephine never wavers from her duty, and Daniel is right alongside her.

In the second story, The Veil, by Kelly Goshorn, Caroline tries to escape her family but runs headlong into a riot in Baltimore and must recover before continuing her journey. Caroline and Franz have very different lives but their love develops quietly and beautifully, with faith at the center.

The third offering, Running from Love, by Angela Couch, sees Anna Kohler traveling cross-country to support her wayward brother, and the last thing he needs is a Mountie in the family. Who doesn’t love a mountie story? And Constable Benjamin Cole doesn’t disappoint.

And finally, in Lauren’s Song, by Cara Putman, we’re dropped into World War Two Hatteras Island. Here, dangers and poverty abound. In this mysterious story, Lauren and coastguard officer John Weary ensure German U-boats are defeated.

I enjoyed each of the novellas in different ways and recommend this collection to any lovers of historical romance. The publisher gifted me a copy via Netgalley. The opinions are all my own.
