To Write a Wrong

To Write a Wrong by Jen Turano is the second brilliant installment in her Bleecker Street Inquiry Agency series. This time, Miss Daphne Beekman takes center stage and rather steals the show.

Daphne, as it turns out (this isn’t a spoiler), is living a double life. To the outside world, she is pushing the boundaries as an inquiry agent, no career for a woman in this timeframe. But then, more scandalous than that, is her other profession, as a mystery novelist. So controversial is this role, that she has a clause in her publishing contract that forbid her revealing her alter ago.

Despite trouble from a tricky literary character and the habit of swooning, Daphne finds herself compelled to take on a case. Fellow author Herman Henderson claims there have been several attempts on his life. Despite writing adventurous character, Herman’s own existence is usually quiet. At least until he meets Daphne.

What follows is exactly what you’d expect from a Jen Turano book. High jinks, misadventure, hilarity and witty repartee. But then there’s also a more serious underlying message as well. (For more details on that, check out the Fiction Friday feature on my blog).

I read this while my family and I were all down with COVID-19 and I can honestly say if you need a little light in what seems at times, a bit of a dark world, then To Write a Wrong comes very highly recommended.
